Spring the birth of the Earth!

The shutters open to a new light,

The markets buzz, colours (colors) explode!

A time to savour the rebirth of the world a feast of sensations!

April, May and June! Three of the most beautiful months of colour that Provence has to show! No wonder so many artists and photographers come to Provence in this season.

We begin with the first buds, the flowers that follow start with blues and whites, then suddenly reds and yellow appear and very quickly after  nature sets up a spectacle  rainbow of colour.

Everything opens up in Spring the markets zing with activity, people everywhere are in their gardens or tending to their flower displays.

The farmers are busy cultivating their first spring crops and the property owners are sprucing up their houses.

Unlike a lot of northern Europe Spring starts in April, we watch the scenery change around us from the burnt dry browns of winter to the subtle tinges of green that appears everywhere. The first pink or white blossoms of the Almond trees dominate at first then suddenly in the space of a couple of days everything starts to explode into colour everywhere!

Below are a collection of photo reportage of the area by world renowned travel photographer Chris Kapolka, travel photographer Ruud van Ruitenbeek and myself. Chris is a regular visitor to this area of Provence and is responsible for the Provence photo tours project and Ruud is a well seasoned travel writer and photographure.
